Moringa Oil and Eczema

Moringa Oil and Eczema

Eczema is another name for a type of dermatitis that causes your skin to become dry, bumpy and itchy. An alternative treatment for eczema is Moringa oil. We'll explore the condition of eczema and the safe, effective, alternative treatment of using Moringa oil to treat the condition.

What is Eczema?

Eczema causes skin inflammation and weakens the skin's barrier function, which can lead to other skin conditions. It can affect anyone of any age. You may be more at risk of contracting eczema if you have a family history of:

  • Allergies

  • Asthma

  • Dermatitis

  • Hay fever

There are several different types of eczema, and it's possible to have more than one type at the same time. The types of eczema include:

  • Atopic Dermatitis

  • Contact dermatitis

  • Dyshidrotic dermatitis

  • Neurodermatitis

  • Nummular eczema

  • Seborrheic dermatitis

What Causes Eczema?

There are four main causes of eczema, including:

  • The immune system: Your immune system can react to allergens or irritants in your environment that come into contact with your skin by creating inflammation. This inflammation can trigger the itching and bumpy skin signs of eczema.
  • Genes: If your family has a history of eczema, you have a higher risk of developing the condition. You're also more at risk if your family has a history of allergies, asthma, or hay fever. You may also have a genetic mutation that causes your skin barrier function to be less effective than it should be.
  • The environment: Many potential irritants exist in the environment, including air pollution, smoke, humidity levels, harsh soaps and detergents, fabrics, and some skin care products.
  • Emotions: If you have high levels of stress, anxiety or depression, they can cause a flare-up of eczema symptoms.

Common Treatment for Eczema

Keeping your skin healthy, moisturized and avoiding known triggers can be effective preventative measures against eczema. If you do experience an eczema flare-up, the most common treatment is a steroid-based hydrocortisone cream. However, the negatives of using hydrocortisone cream can include:

• Allergic reactions, including skin rashes, hives, itching, and swelling of the face, lips or tongue

• Burning, peeling or crusting of treated skin

• Mild skin irritation, redness or dryness

• Unexpected hair growth in treated areas

The cream is not recommended for use in facial applications or on broken skin. It's also for short-term use only. Many people who suffer from regular eczema flare-ups view the hydrocortisone cream as an unacceptable treatment that can cause as many problems as it solves.

Moringa Oil: An Alternative Treatment for Eczema

Many people are discovering that an effective alternative treatment for eczema is Moringa oil. Moringa oil is an essential oil from the seeds of the Moringa Oleifera, a small tree native to the Himalayas. As every part of the tree can be used for industrial, medicinal or nutritional purposes, it’s often referred to as the “miracle tree” for the many benefits it offers.

Moringa oil is good for skin with eczema because of its anti-inflammatory properties. It contains several bioactive compounds, including tocopherols, catechins ferulic acid, quercetin, and zeatin, as well as vitamins A, C, D, and E. When used topically, these compounds and vitamins help reduce skin inflammation. The oil also reduces inflammation by increasing the development of keratinocytes, or healthy keratin-producing skin cells.

Moringa oil also benefits the skin overall because of many additional properties it has. It's a potent source of antioxidants that protect the skin from free radicals. Free radicals are the byproducts of metabolism and other cell processes and can be harmful if allowed to accumulate.

Moringa oil is a great moisturizer. It has a chemical composition that aids skin hydration and moisturization, which is essential as a preventative measure against eczema.

The oil also contains stearic acid, an emollient that provides a protective barrier on the skin and helps prevent infections from cuts and abrasions.

Safe for Use on Everyone

Moringa oil is good for treating eczema in adults, children, and babies. It can be applied safely to any part of the body, including the face. The combined beneficial elements of the oil, plus the moisturizing and antioxidant properties, are responsible for the oil's skyrocketing popularity around the globe.
